Makayla's Second Mission

Makayla is a 19 year old trying her best to recover from her second battle against cancer. At 2 1/2 years old Makayla was diagnosed with Stage 4 Liver cancer that spread to her lungs. She endured over 20 rounds of intensive chemotherapy , liver transplant , partial lung resection , and transplantation of bile ducts , veins , and arteries. In January 2025 , Makayla was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma , yet again another aggressive cancer. Since then Makayla underwent an additional 18 rounds of intense rounds of chemotherapy. In July 2025 she had major reconstructive surgery. They removed 2 ribs and replaced them with titanium rods , they removed surrounding muscle and tissue as well. Since September 2025 she was receiving clean-up chemotherapy but has reached toxicity level on most chemos. Thankfully her last Pet Scan was clear of any tumors , but Makayla is now struggling with side effects of chemotherapy. She was admitted to the hospital this February again for hepatic encephalopathy. Makayla is struggling physically and cognitively right now. She is not able to walk fully on her own , bathe on her own , get up on her own. She is very confused. She is receiving Occupational , Physical , and Speech Therapy services inpatient right now. The doctors are performing many tests and procedures to find the root causes of her confusion and why her cells will not recover. She requires many platelet and blood transfusions , and there is very little increase or recovery from them at this point. Even without any active tumors , Makayla continues to struggle and right now there is no end in sight for her. There is possibility for more extended inpatient stays in the hospital 3 hours away from home. Any support for my family is greatly appreciated.
