About this campaign
MarchOnHarrisburg is a non-partisan, volunteer-driven organization in Pennsylvania that works to end corruption in PA by advocating for two bills that would end gerrymandering and ban bribes to legislators. (Yes, that is totally legal in PA!) We have lobbied more than 230 out of Pennsylvania’s 253 legislators on these issues since January 2017. We have marched almost 150 miles across PA and we have demanded action on our bills through non-violent civil disobedience, which concluded in 42 strategic arrests.
Time’s Almost Up to Save Our Democracy...
However, the clock is ticking for gerrymandering reform in Pennsylvania. Gerrymandering is when politicians manipulate legislative districts for their own political gain. The outcomes can be obvious and disturbing, especially in a state as corrupt as Pennsylvania. (45th most corrupt in the Union!) In 2012, Pennsylvanians cast 83,000 more votes for Democrats than Republicans. Yet, Republicans won 13 out of 18 Congressional seats. If that sounds corrupt, it’s because it is, no matter what party is doing it!
SB 22 and HB 722: Independent Citizen Commission would end incumbent gerrymandering by creating an Independent Citizen Commission that would use only census data to draw district While SB 22 is moving forward in the Senate, HB 722, has been gutted by obstructionist Rep. Daryl Metcalfe. After refusing to call the bill to a vote or meet with MOH for over a year, he betrayed 110 cosponsors when he changed the language to ensure politicians will continue to hold the power of redistricting. If we don’t pass both of these bills by June 30th, we will have lost the chance to save our democratic elections until 2032.
