About this campaign

Mason Community Players, Inc. has an interesting beginning. A Mason High School Social Studies teacher challenged his students to find a need in the community and fill it. Junior Karen Terry identified the need for a community theatre and with four of her friends, made a proposal to the City Council of Mason that they allocate $1,000 toward an inaugural production. The proceeds of the production would be returned to the City. Councilwoman Cay Steinhauer supported the proposal and the Council voted to provide the funds which created MCP on June 25, 1973. The first production of the group was presented in September 1973 as a part of the city's Community Unity Days, an event which is now recognized in the city as the Heritage Festival.

The group continued to present theatre with the financial backing of the city until 1979, when it became an incorporated non-profit organization. Until January 2015, MCP presented more than 130 musicals, dramas, comedies and revues in dozens of venues throughout Mason, including schools, churches, auditoriums, parks and the street. In January 2015, the group began to lease Theatre 42, located just north of Mason on Route 42. MCP continues to perform in this venue as it improves the facility to provide the best accommodations possible for Mason and the surrounding areas to experience quality community theatre.
