About this campaign

The Honoring Elders Project is a community based project, started by photographer Kara Counard of Bloom Photography by Kara. Children from local schools are connected to elders from assisted living homes, throughout Wisconsin. The kiddos learn about storytelling through photography and local history right from the source! It teaches and empowers the young ones, while drawing attention to the lives and stories of these beautiful folks. A set of entry level DSLR cameras are needed to dedicate to the project. You can help fund the project, plus you get a super cool tee shirt! Thank you, thank you, thank you for any donations!
If you can't donate, please share with friends and family!
You're the best! And we're all grateful!

The Honoring Elders Project came about in progression after two other projects by Kara Counard. The first, called the 101 Women Project, featured 101 women in the community where they felt at home. And the Women Over 90 Project featured 33 subjects from the ages of 89 to 100 from throughout Wisconsin. A group of 5th grade girls was involved with that project, and their photos and stories of elders were included alongside Kara's in an art show at the ARTgarage in 2012. This led to the Honoring Elders Project. The project is on its third year of bridging that gap between generations, through storytelling and photography.
Your help is needed to purchase a dedicated set of cameras for the project.

My students participated in this project - it is awesome! They met wonderful people, learned about their lives & chronicled their stories in writing and priceless photos! Cameras had to be shared; more are desperately needed!

My daughter participated in the Honoring Elders project via Alfo Leopold School. She talked about it constantly and enjoyed every moment....especially the picture taking. What a fantastic opportunity and creative way to connect generations.
