About this campaign

A population of 20 million in the US are affected by Thyroid Disease of some kind. The thyroid gland is a butterfly shaped organ in the neck. Thyroid disease is a silent disease which affects all parts of the body, it is not isolated to the thyroid itself. The thyroid is responsible for all metabolic functions of the body, and while most thyroid issues are treatable, they are not curable.

We are a group of women from all over the country, brought together by one common reason, Graves' Disease. After hearing from others, who also live with this disease, some who can not afford to pay for medication to those who can not afford to see a doctor, we have decided to do something to hopefully help. We formed Butterfly Nation Project to help those in need. Everyone should be able to get the proper medical attention and we are hoping to be able to help those patients in need for really WE are patients supporting patients.

I was diagnosed with graves disease eight years ago and recently had a total thyroidectomy. Very few people realize how much this disease effects day to day existence.

I found out I have graves in 2010. It has been very hard to deal with. Thank God my husband does have insurance I probly would have not been able to pay for treatment without it.
