About this campaign

The Blount County Rescue Squad needs your help to fund our presence on the stretch of Highway 129 known as "The Dragon". This popular destination for motorcycles and cars derives its name from its resemblance to a dragon's tail. This section begins at Tabcat Creek and runs to Deals Gap and has 318 curves in only 11 miles. The area is remote. Cell phone service is for the most part non-existent. Visitors to The Dragon who experience a medical emergency may experience wait times of up to an hour before medical help arrives. To render help more quickly, the Blount County Rescue Squad posts a quick response rescue vehicle directly on The Dragon every Saturday and Sunday during the months of May through October. This is in addition to our crash truck and quick response vehicle that remains in service from our Alcoa headquarters. Our skilled teams working on The Dragon are medically certified and/or licensed, skilled in pre-hospital trauma care, rope rescue, and search & rescue. Depending on the location of the emergency, we have been able to reduce response times to ten minutes or less.

The Blount County Rescue Squad (BCRS) is a 501c3 non-profit agency that has been serving the citizens of Blount County since 1958. BCRS is staffed completely by volunteers, and there is no charge for our services. All funding for BCRS comes from generous donations from our community. We receive no funding from government agencies.
Our services include, but are not limited to: Emergency Medical Response
Motor vehicle accidents/vehicle extrication Public assists Search and rescue/recovery Wilderness rescue Medical rehabilitation and support for local fire departments Mutual aid for area emergency departments

The mission of the Blount County Rescue Squad is to: Provide excellence in pre-hospital emergency care and specialty rescue/support services to the citizens and visitors of Blount and surrounding counties, when called upon by local and state emergency response partners. Deliver these services through dedicated, highly trained and certified emergency care providers with the knowledge, tools, integrity and accountability to any persons or agencies in need of such care. Foster community relationships by collaborating with our emergency response partners and the general public to increase the effectiveness of the EMS system in Blount County. This will be achieved through community outreach events, public education on accident prevention, and rescue and emergency care training programs.

I fully support what this squad is doing and I am donating to keep their services active. Huge thanks for being the first response on the dragon, I just pray that I never personally need their help.

I drove the Dragon for the first time last week and loved it. Five years ago the Blount Co Rescue folks transported me when I got sick while we were here on vacation.

Been riding the Dragon for a few years now. Have seen these fine men and women in action a few times. I am a retired FF from Pa. Always support the brothers and sisters!!! Keep up the good work. Hopefully, I never need your services.
