About this campaign

The SS United States Conservancy needs your help.

Earlier this summer the Conservancy provided an update to its supporters about the progress of our redevelopment efforts, including a set of exciting new renderings from several renowned architects working with our development partners.

We also announced that while redevelopment planning continued to advance, our exclusive option agreement had expired, and our partners were no longer required to pay the ship's carrying costs. That means in order to continue to keep the ship safely afloat over the next several months while pre-development due diligence is completed, we need to raise $180,000 for the vessel's insurance, pier rental and maintenance costs and for our crucial preservation and curatorial programs.

Without additional resources, we can't afford to cover the monthly bills - totaling approximately $60,000 per month - necessary to keep the ship in the water.

The SS United States has faced the possibility of being lost to history at various times over the last five decades. The ship remains afloat today only because peoplefrom across the country andaround the world have pulled through to help.

The SS United States is an irreplaceable piece of our history. "America's Flagship" is one-of-a-kind and still has global significance as an enduring symbol of the nation's historical accomplishments and technological innovation. We've made great progress in recent months toward finding suitable permanent locations for the ship and identifying how to finance the ship's restoration costs and activate the ship's commercial potential. However, until a new agreement isfinalized, the fate of the nation's flagship is in our hands. We are asking for your help at this time because we believe that America's Flagship deserves to be given every opportunity to survive.

Members of the Board of Directors and other leaders are redoubling their commitments to the cause and personally making a new round of contributions to our effort. Please join us by donating $25, $50, $100 or whatever you can spare. The story of the SS United States is about people who had a great vision. You have showed you share the vision and are willing to stand with America's Flagship. Please commit to helping today.

My family sailed to Bremerhaven and back in 1961 and 1962 while my father was designing a project for Esso A.G. The voyage was thrilling and the ship was magnificent. What pride in the United States--the ship and the nation!

My hope is that the S/S United States will be saved...in some way, somehow.

This ship is a symbol of an era and a once great cruise ship industry that, unfortunately, has long since died. This ship's history alone should be ample reason to save and restore.
