About this campaign

Mr. Trash Wheel is the world's first and only sustainably powered trash collecting water wheel. Installed in May 2014 in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, he has taken the world by storm with his own funny and quotable Twitter account and a hilarious "Ask Me Anything" on Reddit.com. Now you can support clean oceans and be the envy of all your friends and neighbors when you purchase our first ever Mr. Trash Wheel t-shirt.

Keep it wheel with Mr. Trash Wheel, the personification of a revolutionary new technology that is helping to clean up our oceans and urban waterways. Trash Wheels use the power of water and sunlight to collect litter and debris flowing down rivers and streams, before it reaches open water. The river’s current provides power to turn the wheel, which moves a conveyor belt that lifts trash and debris from the water and deposits it into a dumpster barge. Solar panels provides additional power to keep the machine running even when the current is slow.

Since May 2014 Mr. Trash Wheel has collected over 341 tons of trash and debris including 192,000 plastic bottles, 250,000 polystyrene containers, and 6.6 million cigarette butts.

I grew up an hour away and was inspired by the Baltimore Aquarium and Chesapeake Bay in choosing my career path. I now work in the environmental field in the west and think this is a great invention. We could use this in CA! Thanks!
