About this campaign

Whether you're into sci fi, fantasy, or alternate histories, you know books take you places you couldn't otherwise go. The Cypress Hills Community School library believes in the power of literature and story-telling to expand our students' worldview.  Each year at Write to Read Day we invite 10 story-tellers of different mediums (authors, poets, journalists, illustrators, technologists, puppeteers, etc.) to run hands-on workshops with our students. Please support this event by purchasing an original t-shirt that will also tell the world how much you love to read!  Have you read the books that inspired all nine images?

The image is a grid of nine famous book portals. From top to bottom, left to right:
-Tornado from The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum
-Tollbooth from The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster
-Wardrobe from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
-Platform 9 3/4 from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling
-Explanation of a tesseract from A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle
-Sealed door from Coraline by Neil Gaiman
-Rabbit hole from Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Caroll
-Empire State Building/Mount Olympus from Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
-Beanstalk from Jack and the Beanstalk from classic folklore

I attribute the majority of my appreciation of language and humor to the works of Douglas Adams and Norton Juster. What better way to celebrate their influence on the next generation than by supporting a project like this?

Stories grow wild everywhere, but when there is no gardener to cultivate them, to nurture them, to protect them from storms and pick them when they are ripe, they die on the vine.
