About this campaign

October is Rett Awareness Month. Rett Syndrome is a genetic neurological disorder that occurs almost exclusively in females. Rett Syndrome becomes apparent after about a year of early normal development. A child with Rett Syndrome then begins to regress into a lifetime of impairment that requires maximum assistance with even the most basic daily activities. A Rett child loses the ability to speak, suffers from seizures and scoliosis, and more than half can no longer walk. Life expectancy dramatically drops for these children when they reach their twenties. Rett syndrome is estimated to affect one in every 10,000 to 15,000 live female births and in all racial and ethnic groups worldwide. Rett presents many challenges to patients and their families and yet it is a barely known illness. It currently has no cure. However, because of recent research, parents of Rett girls have hope for the first time that they’ll see a cure. They fight today to find a cure in their daughters’ lifetime. We all together have the power to raise awareness for this devastating illness. By purchasing and wearing a shirt from this fundraiser you raise awareness all year long.

All proceeds of this fundraiser will go towards the Rett Clinic, which provides therapy, medical and emotional assistance, and loving help through the Rett Clinic at the Children’s Hospital Colorado.

The Rocky Mountain Rett Association (RMRA) founded the Rett Clinic in 2011 and is covering the costs of running the clinic ever since. In 2017 the Rett Clinic was recognized as a “Center Of Excellence” by the International Rett Syndrome Foundation, and is used as a model for current and planned clinics in other states.
