When a child is diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, parents and caregivers may think hope is lost. Often they feel very alone.

Mended Little Hearts is a nationwide organization for parents, caregivers and families of children with heart defects that provides resources and a caring support network to help families work through overwhelming emotions involved with having a child with a heart defect. Mended Little Hearts groups serve communities by:  Providing peer-to-peer support to parents, family members and other caregivers of children with congenital heart defects  Offering educational and health resources related to congenital heart defects and the well- being of parents and caregivers  Raising awareness in the community about congenital heart disease to help others understand the disease and to increase research funding  Visiting families through our accredited visiting program  Advocating on issues that help improve the lives of those living with congenital heart defects

The Facts  Congenital heart defects are the most common birth defects in the United States affecting nearly 1% of newborns each year.  There are approximately 2 to 3 million Americans born with congenital heart defects alive today.  Most causes of congenital heart defects are unknown.  In 2009, the hospital costs for children with congenital heart defects was nearly $1.5 billion.
