About this campaign
It has been called the Holy Grail of Route 66 landmarks. The Painted Desert Trading Post near Holbrook, Arizona, was in danger of collapse when purchased by the Route 66 Co-Op, created for the sole purpose of saving it for future generations. Phase I successfully stabilized the building. The roof was completely replaced during Phase II, and the first part of Phase III saw a new foundation placed under the building. Phase III continues in October, and will involve stucco repair and additional carpentry work on the inside. All proceeds go directly to the purchase of materials and labor. My husband and I fell in love with Route 66 several years ago and are saddened when parts of its history are lost. Route 66 is a significant part of history and it's important to preserve our past for future generations.
