Our t-shirt was designed by Courtney Shojinaga who was inspired by the traditional Japanese embroidery style called Sashiko. Sashiko or "little stabs" traditionally uses white thread on indigo blue cloth to create geometric patterns. The design on the front of the t-shirt features the iconic monument at the Manzanar National Historic Site. The design on the back of the t-shirt features three women of color wearing their culture's traditional clothing with classic sashiko geometric patterns.

It's so important that people understand this history, the connection to discrimination against other groups then and now, and for us to be allies to each other in ending hate, incarceration, and injustice.

I'm a student at CSULB but I am from San Jose and have always been active in SJ Japantown. I went on the pilgrimage last year with CSULB's NSU and it made me realize how lucky I am to be in the JA community in San Jose and know so much about history.

I am an historian who works at Manzanar National Historic Site. So happy you provided a virtual pilgrimage this year!

My grandmother was at Tule Lake and has shared stories with me about her hardships in internment camps. I've grown up in the Japanese-American community, learning a lot about our history during WWII. Glad that we are raising awareness around this!
