About this campaign

This is a sad and frightening time for our community. East West Players stands united with other organizations who are fighting anti-Asian hate and serving and advocating for the victims of anti-Asian violence. Hundreds have reached out and asked us to reopen our t-shirt campaign, so that they can wear a visible symbol of defiance against bigotry and unified pride. T-shirts aren't enough. But if we can use them to help fund efforts to protect our vulnerable individuals and communities, we will do so.

That's why we decided to launch this campaign for a special edition of this shirt, whose proceeds will benefit the AAPI Community Fund, Stop AAPI Hate, and the fund launched by Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta to support families and victims of the 3/16 spa shootings. A portion of proceeds will also be used to fund programs that East West Players is currently building to bring together Asian American artists around the vital need to create narratives against anti-Asian hate, which we will update as this campaign continues.

We are running this special edition campaign for just two weeks, and don't currently plan to launch it again. But by doing it now, we hope it can generate some additional resources for those currently experiencing fear, vulnerability and suffering from the outbreak of racialized violence against our communities.

--EAST WEST PLAYERS

Established in 1965 by Mako, Rae Creevey, Beulah Quo, Soon-Tek Oh, James Hong, Pat Li, June Kim, Guy Lee, and Yet Lock as a place where Asian-American actors could perform roles beyond the stereotypical parts they were being limited to in Hollywood, East West Players continues the movement to develop, foster and expand Asian Pacific performance into a major force on the national arts scene in the 21st century, while working for increased opportunities for Asian and Pacific Islander artists on stage and in other media and introducing audiences to the diverse Asian Pacific experiences.
