The health of Biscayne Bay is threatened.
Did you know that an alarming number of manatees have died in Florida already this year? Putting 2021 on pace to be one of the deadliest years for the mammals in the past decade.
With a decline in sea-grass beds in Miami-Dade County, biologists say the situation is thought to be worsening.
“We’re hearing Biscayne Bay is going through a worsening phase so we’re really going to have to look at more serious action to take place on a more comprehensive scale.” - read more here.
Biscayne Bay generates billions of dollars annually, fueling an active water-based economy of real estate, boating, fishing sailing and more. The bay is home to over a dozen threatened and endangered species of wildlife and plants.
Fish kills and algae blooms are occurring across Biscayne Bay. This is not a normal occurrence, but rather a sign that the ecosystem of Biscayne Bay is seriously out of balance.

Since 2015, Miami Waterkeeper has focused efforts on the Biscayne Bay Habitat Focus Area -- an area specially designated by NOAA as "at risk" for habitat decline and degradation.
Many of Compass’s clients are directly impacted by the Bay. One of the largest contributors to our economy is real estate, which is heavily dependent on a healthy and thriving Biscayne Bay. A clean Bay is essential for a healthy ecosystem and a healthy economy – that is why Miami Waterkeeper and Compass are working together to ensure we spread the word about the importance of clean water efforts across all South Florida residents and visitors.
Compass Florida knows that Biscayne Bay needs our help and we must band together as a community to ensure the health of our Bay improves.
You can help save the bay! We're raising funds to support Miami Waterkeeper in their efforts to save Biscayne Bay. All proceeds from the sales of save the bay hats will be donated.
Miami Waterkeeper ensures swimmable, fishable, and drinkable water for all. MWK core issues include sea-level rise, clean water, and ecosystem protection. A unique three-pronged approach using public outreach and education, science and research, and policy action, and legal advocacy contribute to many of Miami Waterkeeper’s water wins over the last 10 years.
