About this campaign

The SS United States Conservancy is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the maiden voyage of America’s Flagship with this limited-edition t-shirt.

When she set sail from New York on July 3, 1952, the SS United States was the epitome of mid-century modern design, American innovation, and technological supremacy. Steaming to Europe with notable Americans including Margaret Truman and Bob Hope aboard, she smashed the transatlantic speed record in both directions and captured the Blue Riband – a record she still holds today.

Maiden Voyage - with logopng

Seventy years later, thanks to the dedicated stewardship of the SS United States Conservancy, she remains afloat, and continues to be a symbol of American pride and a proud icon of our collective strength, our can-do spirit, and the values that unite us.

The SS United States Conservancy, a national non-profit organization, is committed to saving America’s Flagship, the SS United States. The Conservancy has also developed an extraordinary collection of art, artifacts and historical documents related to America’s Flagship, to be displayed in a future ship-board museum. Your support will enable us to continue working to save the ship as well as building and curating our collections and developing exciting new digital exhibitions.

This is a national treasure and deserves to be saved by this country she served and stood for so gloriously. We have this one opportunity, or else.

An 'American Treasure' like the Big 'U" should be saved, restored and seen by her many admirers and future generations. She is one of, if not, the grandest creations in American nautical history!!!

I was born the same year the SS United States was launched. I traveled from England to America and back in March/April 1953 to meet my grandparents My dad was in the USAF stationed in England.

My adoptive mom came over from Germany via LaHavre on the SS United States maiden voyage when she was a 22-year-old newlywed. She was alone, though, as my adoptive dad would be coming back to the States with his Army contingent.

This ship represents America in the golden age of cruise ships. I hope it can be restored like the Queen Mary in San Diego.
