About this campaign

Since emerging on the literary scene in 2013, Kimbilio has worked tirelessly on its goal of raising the profile of black literary fiction and the writers who create it. We sponsor events featuring emerging and established authors, and promote writers and their work through our website and social media. For eight summers, our flagship event, the annual Kimbilio Retreat, has hosted over 150 talented writers for a week of writing, workshops, and fellowship. Every dollar raised during this year end fundraiser is pledged to support the retreat, including undercutting the cost of travel and onsite living expenses. To learn more about hour programming, visit our website: https://kimbiliofiction.com/.

Kimbilio means “safe haven” in Swahili. We are a community of writers and scholars committed to developing, empowering and sustaining fiction writers from the African diaspora and their stories. Projects include readings, presentations at professional conferences, social media networking, book prizes, and an annual summer retreat for fiction writers who are members of the Kimbilio community.
