About this campaign
Welcome to the 5th annual Ashley Simard 5K for Rett Syndrome!
Join us in person in Miami or virtually wherever you live, to remember Ashley on her birthday and raise money to cure Rett Syndrome!
Details:
- Sign up by donating or purchasing a 5K t-shirt here! All proceeds go to the Rett Syndrome Research Trust to cure Rett Syndrome! Please do not feel obligated to buy a shirt- just donate what ever you are able!
- Run, walk, or wheel the 5K while wearing our annual t-shirts (or any purple!) and post photos to Facebook or Instagram so Ashley's family can see everyone who joined!
- All abilities are welcome! It will not be timed and there will not be places awarded.
- Deadline to join is May 18th due to processing/shipping time of the t-shirts! Shirts will ship after the fundraiser is closed.
- Most of all, have fun! We chose to hold this 5K on Ashley's birthday so that there will be joy and hope every year on her day! Celebrate Ashley with us, and get out there and walk or run, because YOU CAN. We will never stop fighting for a cure, and we will never stop celebrating you Ashley!
Ashley's 5K was created in memory of Ashley Bernadette Simard. Ashley is Lisa and Bob's daughter, and Grant's sister, who passed away from Rett Syndrome in 2019. Each year on her birthday we hold a 5K in her memory, and donate all of the proceeds to the Rett Syndrome Research Trust to help find a cure for Rett Syndrome.
What is Rett Syndrome: Imagine the symptoms of Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson’s, Epilepsy and Anxiety Disorder all in one little girl. Rett Syndrome is a serious lifelong neurological disorder that is caused by random mutations in a gene called MECP2. Diagnosed almost exclusively in girls, symptoms typically appear in toddlerhood. Many children with Rett are unable to speak, walk or use their hands. Breathing problems, feeding tubes, seizures, anxiety, gastrointestinal and orthopedic issues are common. Rett Syndrome stands apart from other neurological disorders due to the dramatic reversibility of symptoms in animal models.
