About this campaign

All proceeds go to George's treatment and recovery

IMG_4364jpgOn March 27th, while in Port St. Lucie, Florida with his wife Danielle for vacation, George was admitted to the hospital with severe weakness in his legs. Shortly after, he was completely paralyzed from the neck down and was diagnosed with Guillaine-Barre Sydrome. Guillaine-Barre is a viral infection that causes the person's immune system to attack their nervous system. In lesser cases, this causes some weakness in the extremeties, but in severe cases, like George's, it is a complete body attack.

After a week in the ICU, George was placed on a ventilator because the virus started to affect his lungs and chest muscles and breathing became extremely difficult. Almost a week after that, he was transferred to the Neuro ICU at Tampa General Hospital, a 3 hour drive from Port St. Lucie, which is a Center of Excellence for GBS.

After another 2 weeks in the Neuro ICU (almost a month after hospital admission), he was finally cleared to go to the Progressive Care Unit, where he will work on strengthening his lungs to be able to breathe on his own again. Doctors are expecting a close to full recovery, but at this time, nobody is certain how long this recovery will take. It can take anywhere from weeks to months to years.

What is certain, is that this will be a long recovery for George. We hope once he is more stable, we will be able to transport him to a hospital or rehab center up north, closer to home but first he needs to stabilize.

This journey is going to be just as much mental as it will be physical. George has always been active, up until the day before his hospitalization, so being inactive for over a month has taken a mental toll on him.

The purpose of these shirts are three-fold.
1. Raise money for George's treatment and recovery.
2. Boost George's morale and encourage him to keep working through his recovery from GBS.
3. Raise awareness to GBS as May is GBS Awareness Month.

If you would like to buy a t-shirt, please send a picture of you, wearing the shirt while you exercise, to Danielle, so she can display them in George's room.

We thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and support during this time - we can not get through this without you all.
