About this campaign

Wishbone Day is almost here! We are proud to support the Al Koran Shrine Center once again right here in Northeast Ohio.

Shriners has blessed our family in so many ways over the years, from covering hotel stays and transportation to even making sure Santa stopped by our house when Ava was first born.

They also support hundreds of other families just like ours. It has truly made a lasting impact on our lives, and now it is our turn to give back.

You know the men with the tall hats? Those are Shriners, dedicated members who quietly and consistently show up for families like ours in the most meaningful ways.

Al Koran Shriners supports Shriners Hospitals for Children®, a network of 22 hospitals focused on providing specialized pediatric care, advancing research, and training medical professionals. Children up to age 18 with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate receive care in a family-centered environment, regardless of their family’s ability to pay.

If you are a Master Mason, you are eligible and invited to join the Shriners. Al Koran is built on fun, fellowship, and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth, with a global membership of approximately 340,000 members across 193 temples.

Luke and Ava are two fun, incredibly smart kiddos. They both have Type IV Osteogenesis Imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease.
In our family, the gene is recessive. After Luke, now 13, was born, we were told his case was due to a spontaneous mutation and unlikely to recur. Then came Caydence, now 11, a typical and spirited girl. We were not exactly planning a third, but you know how that goes.

At Ava’s 18-week ultrasound, we learned she had a broken femur in utero. While I was 7 months pregnant, we discovered that Aaron and I both carry an altered gene, which meant each of our children had a 25 percent chance of being diagnosed with OI.

We truly cannot imagine life without any of our kids, especially our bonus baby, Ava Joy, who lives up to her name and brings us so much joy every single day. She is now 7, and continues to amaze us with her strength, resilience, and spirit. Thank you for supporting this cause and families like ours.

Osteogenesis Imperfecta, or OI, is a genetic bone disorder present at birth. It is often called brittle bone disease. Children with OI may have bones that break easily, bones that do not form typically, and other related challenges. Symptoms can range from mild to severe.Wishbonejpg
