About this campaign

Mālama Maunalua is releasing a brand-new invertebrate t-shirt design featuring nine common invertebrate species found in Maunalua Bay that we are actively working to restore. These invertebrates include: Kualakai, Ringed Sap-Sucking Slug (Plakobranchus ocellatus), Unauna, Painted Hermit Crab (Calcinus pictus), ʻAloʻalo, Zebra Mantis Shrimp (Lysiosquillina maculata), Pāpaʻi, Teddy Bear Crab, (Polydectus cupulifer), Hāwaʻe Maoli, Collector Urchin (Tripneustes gratilla), Loli, Sea Cucumber (Stichopus pseudohorrens), Mūheʻe, Bobtail Squid (Euprymna scolopes), Kualakai, Imperial Nudibranch, (Hypselodoris imperialis), ʻŌpae Kai, Banded Coral Shrimp (Stenopus hispidus). Support Mālama Maunalua’s restoration and education efforts by purchasing your own limited-time invertebrate t-shirt today!

Since Mālama Maunalua's inception in 2005, our impacts through our programs have been tremendous. With the help of over 42,000 volunteers, we have removed over 4.2 million pounds of invasive algae across 28+ acres of Maunalua Bay that we actively work to restore, and have donated $3.7 million worth of soil amendment for area farms. By purchasing a t-shirt this month, you will help us continue to host free educational events for school groups and community organizations.

About the Artist: Mari Kurosawa was born and raised on Oʻahu. She has a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources and Environmental Management, specializing in Coastal Ecology and Management, from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. She started off as one of our MM interns, and now we're so excited that she's joined our team as a Community Huki Leader! With a passion for the environment and art, Mari is excited about this opportunity to create art highlighting the beauty of the native species that we are working towards restoring in Maunalua Bay.

Mālama Maunalua is a 501-3c environmental nonprofit organization that is committed to conserving and restoring a healthy and productive Maunalua Bay through habitat restoration, science and planning, and education and outreach. Formed by community members consisting of students, teachers, and long-time residents of Maunalua, the organization strives to create a Maunalua Bay where marine life is abundant, the water is clean and clear, and people take kuleana (responsibility) in caring for the Bay.
