Like so many families, we lived through that reality. Jay Jay suffered for years without answers. It was so severe at times that we didn’t understand what was happening to our child. It took over seven years to finally receive a diagnosis. He never showed the “typical” signs of strep. Instead, the infection triggered an autoimmune response—his body created antibodies that mistakenly attacked his brain, affecting the areas responsible for motor skills, emotions, behavior, and decision-making.

Watching your child go through that is something no family can truly prepare for. The pain, confusion, and helplessness are unimaginable.

Jay Jay had been sick since he was around 6 months old, when he had his first known strep infection. It took "7 years and 7 months" to get answers. No child should ever have to endure that—and no family should have to face it alone.

That’s why we share his story. Our hope is that by raising awareness, other children will be recognized sooner, treated earlier, and spared years of unnecessary suffering.

We are still on this journey, but Jay Jay has come so far. He now has an incredible team of doctors working together to help him heal. While he is not fully recovered yet, he is happy, deeply loved, and living a life we once feared would never be possible
