Dear Friends and Family Members did your hear. . . As you know I am in my second year at Howard University, College of Medicine, Washington, D.C. and I will be graduating in May of 2016 as a Medical Doctor. My career plan is to become a pediatric surgeon after five to seven more years of residency and specialized training. This upcoming summer, me and 27 of my colleagues, have been selected to participate in a Service Learning Medical Mission (SLMM) in Africa.

We will traveling to the capital city of Gondar, Ethiopia and staying in the University of Gondar dormitories. Working in the University of Gondar Hospital, one of the countries busiest, as it is a 400 bed facility that services over 40,000,000 people in the region, will be one my greatest challenges, but I’m up for it. Yes, the numbers are staggering and this is why we are so greatly needed. The team will serve from June 11th through July 2nd, where we will spend time rotating throughout of the hospital including the pediatric and surgical wings as well as obstetrics & gynecology clinics where I will perform procedures, interact with patients and observe the work of resident physicians.
