Miranda 2nd Birthday - to Benefit Children's Heart Foundation

Miranda’s Mom and Dad tried to become parents for a long time. When they learned they were pregnant with their Rainbow baby, they were beyond happy. Family and friends could not have been happier for them as this was something they had dreamed about for a long time. Things were going perfect. They discovered they were having a girl and within a couple of days they named her Miranda Cristina. On the 20 week scan, they received the words no parent should ever hear, “There is something wrong with your daughter’s heart”. It took some time for them to digest all the information they received. There were many weeks of tears and prayers. Miranda was going to be born with three complex congenital heart defects that would require three open heart surgeries to survive: * Tricuspid atresia (No Tricuspid Valve) * D-TGA (Transposition of the great arteries: the two major vessels that carry blood away from the heart - the aorta and the pulmonary artery - are switched ) * VSD (Ventricular septal defect – hole between the ventricles). Saying they were scared when she was born is an understatement, but Miranda has shown them she is a real Heart Warrior. Miranda is almost two years old and had two open heart surgeries in her first six months of life. If you see her on the streets, you would never guess how complex her heart is and how much she has been through. They know the future will bring some challenges but they have learned to live one day at a time and to celebrate every single milestone in life. Miranda’s parents want to create awareness because 1/100 babies are born with congenital heart defects but little funding goes to research. There is no cure for CHD but research will provide a better future for her and for all her current Heart friends.
