About this campaign
Mālama Maunalua is releasing a brand new limu (algae) t-shirt design featuring nine of the common limu species found in Maunalua Bay that we are actively working to restore and monitor through our Habitat Restoration & Huki Programs. These limu include: Pūako'ako'a/'Ēkaha (Halimeda discoidea), Wāwae'iole (Codium edule), Pepeiao (Padina sp.), Hulu manu/moa (Caulerpa sertularioides), Kala (Sargassum echinocarpum), Spyridia filamentosa, Alani (Dictyota sandvicensis), Manauea (Gracilaria coronopifolia), & Kohu (Asparagopsis taxiformis). Support Mālama Maunalua’s limu restoration and education efforts by purchasing your own limited-time limu t-shirt today!
Since Mālama Maunalua's inception in 2005, our impacts through the Huki Project have been tremendous. With the help of over 37,000 volunteers, we have removed over 4 million pounds of invasive algae across 27+ acres of Maunalua Bay that we actively work to restore and have donated $3.7 million worth of soil amendment for area farms. By purchasing a t-shirt this month, you will help us continue to host free educational huki events for school groups and community organizations.
About the Artist: Mari Kurosawa was born and raised on Oʻahu. She has a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources and Environmental Management, specializing in Coastal Ecology and Management, from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. She started off as one of our MM interns, and now we're so excited that she's joined our team as a Community Huki Leader! With a passion for the environment and art, Mari is excited about this opportunity to create art highlighting the beauty of the native species that we are working towards restoring in Maunalua Bay.

I appreciate the hard work and planning involved in all of this organzations efforts. Such a great way to introduce how they can contribute via volunteer work and educate our keiki about invasive plants, our oceans, etc
This campaign just makes sense.
MM is a great organization with an exceptional team. They always make us feel welcomed as kokua, they are willing to share their knowledge and grateful for our supporting their efforts to restore the life of Maunalua and the limu that once flourished
