About this campaign

Black musicians have been instrumental in creating and shaping nearly every major American music genre—from blues, jazz, gospel, and hip-hop to rock, R&B, and country. The contributions of Black musicians have shaped the language we speak, the fashion we wear, the dances we move to, the stories we tell, and the ways we express joy. It shapes our grief, resistance, and identities. Music influences film, politics, social movements, and even aspects of everyday life. The statement "Black Music is American Culture" recognizes the creativity, experiences, and contributions of the Black community that have shaped the music we enjoy today. Wearing this message is both a celebration and a reminder; American culture would not exist as we know it without the contributions of Black individuals. We continue to amplify their songs, struggles, and stories and remain committed to celebrating the diversity that shapes American music and culture today.

MUSE Cincinnati’s Women’s Choir, founded in 1984, is a hands-on, hearts-in nonprofit powered by volunteer singers, non-singing members, supporters, and community partners. Our mission is to create a more peaceful and just world through song.

We are committed to musical excellence as a vital tool for delivering our message with integrity, joy, and passion. We champion equality for all people, working to end oppression and injustice across communities, families, schools, workplaces, governments, and other social systems.

As artist-activists, we blend concert and conversation to spark dialogue that resonates long after the last notes are sung. Through our music, we bring people together—building community and creating experiences that inspire, empower, educate, and motivate.
