The scenic backdrop of the Chicago skyline, Lake Michigan, Grant Park, and the museum campus allows for breathtaking photographs and a great time for all.

NAMI Metro-Suburban is committed to improving the lives of people with mental illness, their families, and friends through support, education, and advocacy.

Founded in 1993, NAMI Metro Suburban started to the first Drop-in Center to help individuals with severe mental illness find recovery and successfully integrate into the community. The center offers socialization, life skills and job readiness and placement. Since then, we have continued to grow programs to meet the needs of all individuals, youth, families and communities: touching thousands of lives a year.

All of NAMI’s programs are free so there is no barrier to services.

Some of the many programs offered include:
• The Community Wellness Center
The Community Wellness Center offers free mental health and wellness education, classes, and referrals.

• Improving Health Through Education
Educational presentations on mental health-related topics which provide residents with the knowledge to be able to advocate for and assist their loved one and to help themselves on their journey toward recovery.

• Ending the Silence
Ending the Silence is an in-school presentation that teaches middle and high school students about the symptoms of mental illness and the importance of responding to those warning signs.

• Family Support Groups
Led by trained family members, these groups offer structured support and resources.

• NAMI Basics
A six-week course for parents and caregivers who have a child 18 years or younger affected by a brain disorder. Diagnoses discussed in the class include: childhood onset of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, ADD, ADHD, anxiety disorders, OCD and eating disorders.

• Family to Family
A12-week program for relatives and close friends of adults with persistent and severe mental illness.

• Mental Health First Aid
Mental Health First Aid trains adults how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.

• The Drop In Center
The Drop-In Center serves adults 18 years and over who live with a mental health condition. It provides a safe, stigma-free place for participants to socialize and develop new recovery skills and tools through small group work, peer support, socialization activities, life skill building, and evidence-based job placement strategies.

• The Living Room
The Living Room provides an alternative to a hospital emergency room for persons who are experiencing an increase in their mental illness symptoms. Trained Recovery Support Specialists use their personal experiences to help others find and maintain their recovery and make referrals as appropriate.

• Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP)
Helps adults with mental illness achieve a better understanding of their condition and work toward recovery.

• Connection Support Groups
NAMI Connection is a support group for people living with mental illness. Participants learn from each other's experiences, share coping strategies, and offer each other support and encouragement.

• IPS Job Placement Program
Through coaching, mock interviews, resume development, and on-the-job support, employment specialists work with candidates to develop a career plan and support employee-employer relationships.
