The creator of this month’s t-shirt is Navy Captain David Tarantino, M.D. Captain Tarantino is the recipient of the Navy Marine Corps Medal (the highest award for non-combat heroism) for his actions at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Captain Tarantino was in his Pentagon office when the hijacked plane hit. He went toward the point of impact and searched for injured people, leading them through smoke and flames to safety. He plunged into the searing heat in the heart of the wreckage to free one civilian employee from a mound of debris – getting on his back to leg press the mass until it rose enough for the trapped man to escape.

A family practice physician, Captain Tarantino is a specialist in traumatic brain injury (TBI). He serves on the board of directors of the Yellow Ribbon Fund, which will benefit from sales of his Navy-themed t-shirt.
