About Our Designer: Captain David Tarantino, M.D.

In honor of the t-shirt's US Military origins, CustomInk is hosting a series of monthly t-shirt fundraisers highlighting each branch of the United States Armed Forces. Given the Navy's role in t-shirt history, it's up first.

CustomInk will donate 100% of our profit (at least $10 per shirt) to benefit the Yellow Ribbon Fund, which supports recovering veterans and their families at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

This premium American Apparel shirt is made in the USA and is available in Youth, Ladies and Unisex sizes. Sizing Tip: Style runs small, you may want to consider sizing up.

The creator of this month’s t-shirt is Navy Captain David Tarantino, M.D. Captain Tarantino is the recipient of the Navy Marine Corps Medal (the highest award for non-combat heroism) for his actions at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Captain Tarantino was in his Pentagon office when the hijacked plane hit. He went toward the point of impact and searched for injured people, leading them through smoke and flames to safety. He plunged into the searing heat in the heart of the wreckage to free one civilian employee from a mound of debris – getting on his back to leg press the mass until it rose enough for the trapped man to escape.

A family practice physician, Captain Tarantino is a specialist in traumatic brain injury (TBI). He serves on the board of directors of the Yellow Ribbon Fund, which will benefit from sales of his Navy-themed t-shirt. YRF

About The Yellow Ribbon Fund

The military provides world-class care while injured service members are in the hospital. But sometimes gaps open up between the support the military can provide, and the support the injured and their families need.

The Yellow Ribbon Fund helps bridge the gaps while they’re recovering in the Washington, DC, area at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital.

Even after they return to their hometowns, YRF continues to help.

The Yellow Ribbon Fund has not-for-profit status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
