Voice of OC is a nonpartisan and nonprofit organization built to be a real-time check on local government. Much of our work is dependent on open meetings and public records. During this year’s Sunshine Week we celebrate being dubbed the “Noise of OC'' for making abundant public records requests. And while we encourage civic engagement year-round, this week we are offering extra tips on how to follow and participate in local quality of life debates. Send us your thoughts.

The politicians have their hands covering each other’s mouths.
The importance of local government is too often discounted as lacking importance and impact. Just the opposite. What we demand and expect of our local cities sets the tone and agenda for all government. The Voice of OC allows us to be informed.
Local government in OC frequently behaves in ways that give the appearance of impropriety, whether or not there is impropriety occurring. The Voice of OC therefore is necessary and that is why I will continue to support it on a monthly basis.
