Normal is a Myth- Stop Trying to Blend In and Instead Blend Out!

Growing up with the neurological disability cerebral palsy (CP) I felt embarrassed about being different. All I wanted involved blending in and enjoying the comfort "normalcy" brings. By the time I graduated high school though, that approach to life left me with many regrets. So in college I learned to become more outgoing about my CP, eventually embracing the disability as a part of who I am.

After college I became a freelance writer. Thanks to some clients with disability themed websites my freelance writing endeavors shortly evolved into disability advocacy efforts. The more involved with disability advocacy I became, the more apparent a certain truth stood. "Normal" is a myth! We all have differences. Instead of looking at those negatively, we should find reasons to celebrate them. Don't blend in. Blend out!
