About this campaign

After having our own lives impacted when daniela was in a horrific car accident, our eyes were opened to a world of people who have had their lives turned upside down by traumatic brain injuries. Not wanting to just sit on the sidelines we began Never Just Exist. Our mission is to empower individuals who have faced tragedies and unexpected life-altering events by providing a supportive community and comprehensive resources designed to help them navigate through their journey of healing and adaptation.

On January 8th, 2024, amidst an unusually fierce rainstorm, Daniela's vehicle skidded out of control and crashed into a median lacking protective barriers. The collision resulted in the catastrophic collapse of the car's right side, causing severe injuries. Daniela's condition was critical, necessitating an urgent airlift to Memorial Hermann Hospital. There, against all odds, the skillful intervention of medical professionals and a wave of heartfelt prayers worked wonders, stabilizing Daniela and setting her on a path to recovery over the ensuing weeks. This harrowing experience served as a profound awakening for us, revealing a community bound by the shared adversity of traumatic brain injuries—a world previously unknown to us. As we navigated the challenging road of brain injury recovery, our connection deepened with this brave community, each member embarked on their unique journey of healing. Our encounter with such resilience and the unspoken bond we formed has profoundly moved us, marking the start of a dedicated mission to support and empower those facing similar battles. Initially crafted by Brent as a lighthearted jest to bring a smile to Daniela's face, the logo swiftly transcended its origins. It was embraced by supporters and individuals who had endured similar injuries, evolving into a beacon of hope and solidarity. It represents a smile and one closed eye, the wink.

My prayers are with you for a continued blessed recovery. My husband suffered a similar event in 2014 and his recovery was slow and difficult.

My family has been praying for yours. Our son had a terrible accident in December and lost the sight in his left eye. He is now our beautiful winky face.
