About this campaign

We are Girl Scout Troop 1673 and we are raising awareness for people who experience vision loss through many different diseases. We are also advocating for improved accessibility for those with low vision.
The Paint It Yellow campaign is challenging Girl Scouts, Scouts, Girls, Boys, Parents, Grandparents (everyone) all over the world to Paint It Yellow. You can join our campaign by buying and wearing a t-shirt designed by our troop, hosting a lemonade stand to educate your neighborhood, or going to your local city or town and asking them to paint your park benches yellow so that people with vision loss can see them. These are just some examples, but the sky is the limit!

PLEASE DO NOT DONATE MONEY AS A GIRL SCOUT TROOP WE CANNOT ACCEPT MONETARY DONATIONS. PLEASE PURCHASE SHIRTS TO SUPPORT THE CAUSE. IF YOU DONATE MONEY IT WILL BE RETURNED TO YOU.

We have chosen to raise awareness for people who experience vision loss as we have a personal connection to this subject. Our troop leader has Usher syndrome which is an inherited disease causing combined hearing loss and vision loss from retinitis pigmentosa. The condition can also cause problems with balance. We wanted to make a difference for her in her everyday life and there are a few ways we can make that happen.
1.We are asking our state government to require all curbs in pedestrian areas be painted yellow as people with vision loss have a difficult time seeing where the sidewalk ends and the road begins.
2.We are also working with our school to have yellow stair-nosing put on each step. Did you know some people with vision loss see stairs as slides and cannot differentiate each step? The yellow strip lets them know where the steps begin and end.
3. We are asking our state government for better painted crosswalks. People with low vision can have a difficult time knowing where the crosswalks end and the sidewalk begins.

Thank you SO MUCH for supporting our troop and the 10 million people who suffer from low vision.
