About this campaign

Pond Brook Jr. High School is planning an adventure of epic proportions! Please support our young, engaged and curious learners with their field trip to Washington D.C.

Your donation will provide round trip train tickets from Burlington to D.C. for 15 students, as well as for members of our teaching team and will also provide lodging and meals. Without your support, this trip will not be possible, therefore, we are tenderly, boldly and above all, gratefully, asking for help.

For those who aren’t aware, Pond Brook School is a Jr. High, run through the non-profit, The Willowell Foundation. Pond Brook is rooted in public access and makes every effort to open doors for all learners to participate in meaningful, emergent education, set outside or in community spaces throughout Vermont.

The field trip to Washington D.C. will give our thoughtful students a context through which to place our history as a nation; and in these tumultuous times, the trip will have powerful significance.

This year, Pond Brook students are celebrating the people and the history of our country and the arduous process of creating and maintaining a democracy. They are learning about what it means to participate in a community and to listen to each other’s experiences, needs and dreams. They are witnessing the struggles of common people who came before them and the sacrifices people made to get us here. They are hearing tales from people who come from many different cultures and places as well as the stories of the land and people who are native to the places where they now have classes. They are pitching in to their community and starting to see themselves as players in the future of our democracy. They are looking forward to ending their year with a visit to their nation’s capital, where they can meet with their representatives, tour the museums and monuments to the history they are learning, and get a glimpse of what it means to be an active member of our country. We hope this helps give them agency at a time when many feel disillusioned and divided.
