Ravenbriar Tartans - First Shirt Run

Ravenbriar Tartans began with the Legacy of Darkness. What started as a personal tartan inspired by heavy metal and the music of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath received an unexpected response from the kilt and tartan community. People wanted to know about it. They wanted to wear it. That interest made me realize there was room for something different—a place somewhere between the traditions of tartan, the attitude of rock ’n’ roll, and the darker side of the world.

That idea became Ravenbriar Tartans.

Ravenbriar is built on respect for tartan tradition without being confined by what tartan is expected to look or feel like. The designs are dark, atmospheric and story-driven. Inspiration can come from music, folklore, history, ancient traditions, landscapes, or the changing seasons. Color and proportion are chosen deliberately, and when the story allows it, even the thread counts become part of the meaning woven into the cloth.

The goal isn’t to make novelty tartans. It’s to create something that can stand on its own as a legitimate tartan—something you can wear for years—while carrying a story beneath the surface for those who want to know it.

Ravenbriar is still at the beginning. I’m building it independently, one design and one production run at a time, working toward a growing collection of original tartans and products made from them.

Appropriately, this first Ravenbriar shirt comes back to where the idea began. The small mark on the back is drawn from the structure of the Legacy of Darkness sett itself, stripped down to its essential lines and transformed into a symbol for the brand that grew from it.

This first run helps put the next pieces of Ravenbriar into motion. If you’re wearing one, you’re not just wearing the logo of an established company. You’re wearing something from its beginning.
