About this campaign

Prior to passing away on 5-5-18 from lung cancer, Ryan Garner wanted to start an annual pull-up challenge to raise money and awareness for lung cancer. Especially in non-smokers. He wanted participants to compete against themselves in this personal challenge and learn that they can accomplish more than they think they can. He completed 220 strict pull-ups in 60 minutes while having stage 4 lung cancer without realizing that he had just completed the first annual REPS4RYAN.

The definition of lionhearted is exceptionally brave and courageous. Ryan Garner certainly earned that title. He worked as a K-9 officer and was a member of the Mansfield Ohio SWAT team. He was athletic and active, always finding time to lift weights and practice mixed martial arts. Ryan often worked through what he'd call "discomfort" during his battle with cancer, (he never spoke the word pain, it simply wasn't in his vocabulary). Ryan's sheer grit and mental toughness inspired not only his family and friends but also his his circle of physicians who were treating his cancer. He felt it was his responsibility and duty not to quit. Ryan had one request on October 1st, his 33rd birthday, he wanted to do pull-ups for one hour! He performed 220 pull-ups in 60 minutes, 2 years after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Ryan extends this challenge to anyone who is willing to accept!

This page is a tribute to Ryan and his warrior spirit. We invite you to join us, in-person or wherever you are, in a pull-up challenge! In the meantime, get out there, do some pull-ups, and share your photos with us. Use the hashtag #reps4ryan and continue to share your stories with us.ryanpicjpg
