About this campaign
Its the only one of its kind being constructed in our county, heck... maybe in all of North Carolina! A legacy for Turtle Island Preserve. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyxqUGWcaLA
The Rogers Cabin is a hand-made cabin built by Eustace Conway and dozens of volunteers over the years. It sits on the site of The old Roger's Family Homestead on the south-eastern side of the preserve. The Rogers family settled on this property over 150 years ago, back when people really lived off the land. This cabin is our homage to those days gone by.The logs that make its walls were trees that once grew right there on that exact spot and each shingle was rived on-site from its timbers. We are completing this historic legacy with a one-of-a-kind, hand cut, dry-stack stone chimney. There's not a lick of mortar to be found!
A t-shirt campaign last year raised enough funds to get the project going, but we've run out of those funds to finish paying our master stone mason John Jackson and for the right stone from our local quarry. We are so close to completion! With your support, from buying a t-shirt, or donating to the effort, we will eventually reach the sky... leaving behind a monument that will serve future generations, by helping them honor the past. We have great admiration for Eustace and Turtle Island, and for the goals he is trying to achieve.
We respect what Eustace is trying to do by bringing understanding to how people use to live compared to today. Even in those days tasks were not completed by one person but by all that could help, in turn bringing everyone closer.
