Showing Hope to Orphans

Did you know that there are well over half a million orphans in China? Many of these children have severe medical needs. Unfortunately, many orphanages in China do not have the facilities or resources to properly care for medically fragile children. Many of them could be healed with surgery and care, but because of lack of resources they are neglected and many die due to these illnesses. This is where Show Hope comes into the picture.

A few years ago I read a book called Choosing to SEE by Mary Beth Chapman and it changed me forever. It is about her and her family’s adoption journey and the tragic loss of one of the little girls, Maria. In her honor, Mary Beth and her husband started an organization called Show Hope in which their mission is to help provide waiting orphans with forever families by giving financial grants to those adopting and to provide life-saving medical care for orphans with special needs at Maria’s Big House of Hope, located in Luoyang, China. Show Hope provides the opportunity for students to travel to China and be a part of what God is doing in the lives of these orphans. After prayerfully considering this trip for many years God has opened up the door and I have joined the Show Hope Team to go to Maria's Big House of Hope this summer, July 17th through the 26th and I could not be more excited! Our activities will include coming alongside the nannies to play with the children, helping with the preschool class, daily team devotionals, and small work projects at Maria’s Big House of Hope. We also hope to visit and interact with the children at the local, state-run orphanage.
