About this campaign

Women's History Month is an occasion that is all about learning, sharing, and valuing the contributions of women towards the betterment of our society. One group of women that does not always get recognized is Black women. Within our female-dominated profession, we hardly know the women who have come before us, paving the way forward. This month we are going to learn more about the contributions of Black SLPs specifically and, in that spirit, we want to celebrate this month united together. One thing we have learned in our profession is that we need to work together for those that we serve. All of us can contribute to our profession and be a part of #slpwomenshistory. When we work together, we can get appropriate services for students in need, we can learn and grow in our professional development as we tackle new information, we can to empower people of color to join our ranks, and as professionals we can continue advancing our profession pushing the boundaries of knowledge. We're excited to debut a t-shirt that celebrates coming together. Let's wear it and show our pride at being women and part of this tremendous profession!

Smiles for Speech is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children with disabilities around the globe. Sandy Dorsey is a black speech-language pathologist based in New York that works primarily with underserved communities. She has made it her mission to do more and make a larger impact beyond her own caseload and clients and created Smiles for Speech to achieve her vision. Smiles for Speech facilitates in-person global trips that bring US-based speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists to sites worldwide to train and equip clinicians in other countries to help them reach more children with disabilities. Smiles for Speech also participates in establishing libraries and donating equipment and other on-site resources in universities in Africa that have requested this additional support.
