The first few snow storms of the season are always an exciting time at the Central Sierra Snow Lab as we prepare for the upcoming winter. The Snow Lab has quickly become the go-to source for accurate and up-to-date information about snow in the Western United States. When you turn on the news or read an article about snow, chances are good that the Snow Lab will be providing the public with clear, engaging information. At the same time, the Snow Lab continues to collect, provide, and analyze the high quality data that supports cutting edge research for scientists around the world.

As we grapple with the consequences of climate change and increasing conflict over limited water resources, the work of the Snow Lab has never been more important.

At the same time, there are always unexpected expenses – falling trees, equipment repairs, and the challenges of maintaining a world-class lab in a harsh, high elevation environment where almost 63 feet of snow fell last winter.
