About this campaign
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was founded in 1962 by actor Danny Thomas. He prayed to the Saint Jude and promised that if his career took off, he would build a shrine to honor him. This prompted the founding of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, where no family pays for treatment. The research from St. Jude is shared with hospitals world wide. In 1962, survival rates were as low as 4 percent. Due to research conducted since then, survival rates for many types of pediatric cancer have reached highs of 80 percent or more in the United States.
