10-year-old Jetta has had her story shared around the world and she has a army of supporters who have spoken up and chosen to #standwithjetta! Her story starts with a selfless, fearless and compassionate decision to donate 14 inches of her hair to Wigs for Kids, who make wigs for children battling cancer and other diseases that cause kids to loose their hair. Unfortunately, it took an unexpected turn when some ofher classmates turned against her, and began verbally harassing her, using gender based insults, and other mean comments in reference to her new, short haircut. Initially the schools response was disheartening, but we are pleased to say that after several phone calls and a meeting with school officials, things are moving in the right direction! The implementation of new programs and activities will not only improve daily school life for Jetta, but also for the other students and the staff. We are excited to see both the short and long term benefits!However, we are not done and are still determined to turn this negative experience into a positive one, using encouragement and kindness to show that even a 10 year old girl can make a difference!
