As a writer of dark fantasy, I don't find it a challenge to think about the ways the world can use, abuse, and disregard people. But that doesn't mean I want the problems I explore in my fiction to become any more a reality

They live in a world that's far from ideal, but their ongoing story is about fighting to save what's good in it -- even when that's hard to see.
