This project is a partnership between The Trumpeter Swan Society (TTSS) and the Zoological Community to continue to restore the wild trumpeter swan Rocky Mountain Population (RMP) in the Greater Yellowstone area. TTSS reports that the population of adult birds in this area is estimated at only 765 individuals and the population is in danger of extinction over the next several decades. Tapping into the potential resource of RMP swans within zoos could significantly increase the number of RMP cygnets released into the Greater Yellowstone area and move the population to more sustainable numbers.
