About this campaign

In honor of Dr. Stevens' son, James, all of us at Essential Health & Wellness will be participating in the Angels Among Us 5K on April 23, 2016.

Funds raised through Angels Among Us, are quickly delivered where they are needed most in the fight against brain cancer. Since 1994, over $18 million has been donated to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center from Angels Among Us. It is the largest source of unrestricted funds for the Center and the most critical. This type of support allows the Center to continue to lead the world in the development of new therapies, quality of life initiatives and innovative treatment techniques.

James' Story
In July 2014, James was observing a dental procedure during an internship with his uncle, he fainted and hit his head on the ground. The fall lead to an MRI of the brain, which showed that he fractured his skull and serendipitously a tumor in the right frontal lobe was discovered as well. A biopsy of the tumor identified it as a Grade 2 astrocytoma. On May 2015, Dr. Allan Friedman at Duke Hospital performed brain surgery and removed the tumor. Now, James is recovered and is back in college pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming a dentist.
