About this campaign

April 2024 Update: After the wonderful news in January 2024 showing no evidence of disease, we were informed at the beginning of the month that a new growth of concern has appeared at the base of the spinal column. August's team in Dallas does not believe surgery is feasible, but we have found a team in Boston that believes they can remove the growth and achieve the best possible outcomes. As August faces surgery (including cross-country travel) and possible radiation for a third time, please consider supporting his treatment and healing efforts by wearing this shirt proudly.

After we launched the gold shirt in the Fall, August now says this is "his shirt" and loves seeing the community around him rally for his best possible outcomes.

--
In September 2023, we learned the challenging news that August's brain cancer returned after spending 3.5 years of no evidence of disease. We were devastated by the news, but August - in true August fashion - has leaned into what he knows best. How to be strong, to show us what he is capable of, and to remind us not to underestimate his capacity to heal.

The meaning behind this shirt design includes several personal and important symbols for August:

The "Three Little Birds" were drawn by Bryant, August's big brother - representing August and his siblings, and the anthem by Bob Marley reminds us that "every little thing is gonna be alright."

The gold color is symbolic of pediatric cancer awareness and is one of August's favorite colors. The blue color was chosen by August as an additional option for supporters.

The Leo constellation in the sky is reminiscent of August's favorite movie, The Lion King, which features a mantra of "hakuna matata," which bares a message similar to that of the beloved reggae tune.
