We all know how important family is to us, especially around this time of year. Unfortunately, not all families will have the means to have the thanksgiving you or I might because of rationing for the day-to-day; I know a few families in particular. I have decided to organize this virtual turkey trot in order to raise money for these families that have struggled for the past few years. I am sad to say, that they can barely obtain food on a regular basis. What better way to fundraise and express how grateful we are for what we have, than by trotting along with the ones you call family and helping others in the process! My goal is to raise $5000. Please purchase as many shirts as you want! all the money I obtain will go directly to these families. Thank you so much!

I have to start some of my story with a Christmas memory.
My favorite Christmas was when I was living in a small apartment with my mom and two younger siblings. I was about 10 years old and we were sitting next to the tree, playing on the floor, with some objects we made into toys. All of a sudden we hear a loud knock on the door and a deep voice saying "Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas!" I was shocked. I was old enough to know, but thought "hmmm, it aint so...is it?" My mother answered the door and "Santa and his elves" entered my home with the biggest and brightest wrapped gifts I have ever seen! I can't describe the excitement in the room coming from my siblings and I. one of the elves handed me a book called The Children's Book of Virtues. That book still lives in my mother's home to this day.
I say all of that to say, the community gave me that memory. With all of the hardships going on in my life at that period in time, volunteers and donors of time and money gave me joy in the darkness. The community gave me even more than that. Not only the memories, but the community supported my goals and aspirations as well as believing that I could achieve what I set out to. My first tricycle came from my first bus driver. My youth pastor taught me how to drive. A member of my home church gave me my first job. a customer at my first job made me a shirt to remember them by as I went off to college(I still own the shirt). A professor waived a fee so that I could apply for a medical prep program, and the list goes on and on. Needless to say, I now have met each goal I have ever set thus far and am in a position to BE what was given to me for so many years. I get to be Hope, motivation, a cheerleader, a donor, a home with a warmed cooked meal, a ride, a free place to stay, a listener, a letter of recommendation, a friend. I get to be ME. Who I am is nothing without my community.

I urge you to please join me in raising funds to help others out there who just need a little break, so that they can be who they are going to BE.
