Tyler's 15th Birthday

The general recap for people new to the page/shirt… Tyler was born with a rare genetic disorder and is missing two small portions of chromosome 11q and 4q. After Tyler’s very eventful welcome to the world and first year of life, we wanted to do something special and started our t-shirt tradition with Tylerpalooza 2012!

Tyler has had a wonderful year! He finished middle school and enjoyed a relaxing summer spent lounging in the pool, listening to audiobooks, and always asking for TV time. It's hard to believe, but we now have a freshman! We recently visited his teachers, and everything about high school seems awesome. The transition from middle school has gone smoothly, and he has adjusted easily. We've already been told he's quite social and something of a Mr. Popular.

Tyler has also had another healthy year. I don't think we had any procedures or major illnesses, just one ER visit while on vacation that had us in and out quickly. We saw a couple of new doctors to rule out some concerns, and we recently got the OK to stop seeing pulmonology. No more BiPAP for Tyler! It never bothered him to wear it, but he was very happy to say goodbye to it and free up some space on his bedside table.

Tyler continues to participate in Special Olympics with Klein Champions. He attended the Summer Games this year for track and field. He does so well and really shines when his teammates and their families are cheering him on. This year, we also added swimming. Tyler can't swim or hold his breath underwater, but Special Olympics truly offers opportunities for all abilities, so he will be competing in the walk event.

I know I mentioned it last year, but if you or your child ever have a chance to volunteer or be a Unified Partner, we strongly encourage it! Our whole family loves the organization, the friendships, and most of all, seeing the athletes have the time of their lives.
