About this campaign

This fundraiser is sponsored by Dontie S. Mitchell, better known as, Mfalme (Don X) Sikivu, as part of the Social Platform of UFD. It is to raise money for the Money Gang Youth Empowerment Corporation, a unique youth empowerment and mentorship program developed based upon Mfalme's experience as youth in a community.

At 17 years old, Mfalme made a terrible mistake getting involved with the streets and robbing people. Although he didn't hurt, harm, or injure anyone, he still was caught, tried, convicted, and sentenced to 35 to 70 years. While in prison, Mfalme learned more about Black history and how his "deads" (Ancestors) fought, bleed, and died for the rights and freedoms he took for granted and squandered away by ending up in prison. He felt ashamed and vowed to better himself through education. He also decided to use his knowledge, skills, talents, abilities, and ideas to uplift and empower his community. Mfalme became a peer educator and leader, passing along what he learned and working to motivate his peers to change and better themselves. As he got older, his work naturally transitioned into mentorship of younger prisoners as he then was becoming an elder. Mfalme was fortunate to be released early from prison after being granted clemency. Once out, he began working with youth in the community, helping them realize their goals, dreams, and aspirations. Mfalme also began working with youth most at risk of getting involved in gangs, drugs, and violence. This all culminated into the formation of the Money Gang Youth Empowerment Corporation ("Money Gang"). Money Gang is a unique youth empowerment and mentorship program that operates off the principle that, "It takes a village to raise a child!" Mfalme modeled Money Gang primarily around his childhood experience. When he was younger, a man by the name of Carl Baxter took Mfalme and his gang under the wing. Carl would do daily activities with them. He would take them swimming, camping, hiking, horseback riding, to amusement parks, etc. Mfalme recalled as long as he and his gang were with Carl, they were getting into trouble or skipping school. Mfalme seeks to recreate and expand upon this experience for youth today in the community through Money Gang.
