About this campaign

This fundraiser supports the Missouri Asian American Youth Foundation's mental health fund, which is the first of its type in the state. The fund was started with a $5,000 grant, and provides therapy sessions for Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islanders in the state, including adopted and LGBTQIA youth.

The Missouri Asian American Youth Foundation empowers Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islanders to be leaders. Founded ahead of the 2020 Census, the organization has already succeeded in getting the State of Missouri to fund and broadcast the first Census ads in Spanish and Chinese in St. Louis and Kansas City.

We are deeply indebted to KSDK anchor Michelle Li, and the anonymous caller who complained that she was "very Asian."

About the artist:
Sara Wessels (@seoulyearth) is a Korean American adoptee and artist living in St. Louis City.

As an Asian American who was a victim of racist acts as a child which continue to have lasting effects into adulthood, I want to provide a safe place for people of all races to grow up.

As a proud Korean-American, adopted as a child by a white American couple, I share this story with both Michelle Li and the designing artist. Just because my origin is from Asia, doesn't make me any less American #VeryAsian

Because Asian Americans still face harassment and discrimination in 2022!
