Wear Your Support, Grow Our Community! — KCC's 2026 Holiday Fundraiser

Kwanzaa is a wonderful, intentional Black American holiday created by Dr. Maulana Karenga 1966 to reconnect Black Americans with our African heritage and the Afrocentric principles that help us build strong, loving communities. Our annual Kwanzaa celebration is a chance to connect with and celebrate the seven principles of Kwanzaa, the Nguzo Saba, and how we've lived them throughout the year. We celebrate every December 27, Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), partly because Kujichagulia is much fun to say, AND because self-determination is at the heart of our work. We aren't going to change this world unless we're determined to do it, and that determination begins with how we choose to show up for ourselves and each other.

Our Kwanzaa celebration began as a way to bring together the folks who had spent the year learning, volunteering, attending Thinking & Doing Days, and building community with us. It's our chance to PAUSE, look around, and celebrate what we've accomplished together. We share a beautiful meal, enjoy healing arts, honor our community, and recognize that all those little acts of care have added up to something pretty amazing!

This is what We Care for We looks like! We practice the principles all year, and on December 27, we get to celebrate the community we've created together.
